Here's what fits on Justin's truck from a pile anywhere in Colorado Springs or the Pikes Peak region. Justin Winterbower runs Junkernaut Junk Removal himself. He prices the job, answers the phone and does the hauling. It's a one-person outfit, so the guy on the phone is the guy who shows up. Each group is one of the jobs he lists, and the full rundown of every job Justin handles has a page for each one.

Household junk, furniture and mattresses

Most calls start with the stuff inside the house. The couch that won't fit through the new doorway. The box spring leaning in the hall. That's everyday junk removal, and Justin hauls it from wherever it's sitting in the house. A recliner from the den or a stack of boxes in the spare room goes the same way. Big pieces fall under furniture removal, and old beds go out as mattress disposal.

  • Couches, sectionals and recliners
  • Dressers, tables and bookshelves
  • Mattresses and box springs (+$40 each)
  • Bed frames and headboards
  • Boxes, bags and loose household clutter
  • Old exercise equipment
  • Rugs and lamps

Garage, basement and whole-house clean outs

Some jobs are a whole room. A garage clean out clears the shelves and the pile by the back wall. A basement clean out means stairs, and Justin does the carrying. A full house is a residential clean out, and renters on their way out can book an apartment clean out.

  • Shelving, bins and old tools
  • Bikes, sleds and sports gear
  • The old fridge in the basement (+$40 each for anything with freon)
  • Holiday decorations nobody puts up anymore
  • Furniture left behind after a move
  • Boxes out of storage rooms
  • Old carpet rolled up in the corner

Estate and commercial clean outs

When a family is settling a house, an estate sales clean out takes what's left after the sale. Justin loads what nobody claimed. Businesses call for a commercial clean out. That's usually old desks and a back room full of things the office stopped using. Filing cabinets and break room tables go out with them. Anything that still has use goes to donation first.

  • Furniture left after an estate sale
  • Kitchen items and linens
  • Office desks and chairs
  • Filing cabinets
  • Shelving and display racks
  • Break room tables

Yard waste

Outside work counts too. Yard waste removal covers the branches that came down and the old fence boards stacked behind the shed. Justin loads it from the yard. That includes the pile along the side of the house. Bagged or loose, it goes on the truck the same way.

  • Branches and limbs
  • Bagged leaves and grass clippings
  • Brush and shrub trimmings
  • Old fence boards
  • Old landscape timbers
  • Broken patio furniture
  • Old planters and pots

Demolition and construction debris

Justin also handles demolition services, like a shed or an old deck that has to come down, and he hauls off what's left. Leftovers from a remodel go under construction debris removal. That's the drywall scraps and the lumber stacked in the driveway. Concrete and brick go to a recycling center, and metal goes to a Colorado Springs metal recycler.

  • Drywall and plaster scraps
  • Lumber and old framing
  • Old cabinets and countertops
  • Tile and flooring
  • Concrete and brick
  • Scrap metal and old fixtures
  • Old decking boards
  • Shed walls and panels

Hourly labor

Not every job is a load headed out. Hourly labor is Justin's help on the property itself, when the work is lifting and carrying. Some days the job is just a heavy dresser that has to go up a flight of stairs. It's Justin himself doing the work. Tell him what needs doing and he'll say if it fits. Call or text (719) 246-8422.

Hazardous waste disposal questions

Hazardous waste disposal is on Justin's list of services. Hazardous waste doesn't ride on the truck. The hazardous waste disposal page explains what counts. If the garage has old paint and cleaners on the shelf, those come off the pile. The paint cans stay. The shelves they sat on can go.

What Justin doesn't take

Hazardous waste is refused, and four items are named outright. If one of them is sitting in the pile, Justin leaves it where it is and still hauls the rest of the load. Gas cans with fuel still in them count as fuel. Keep these out of the stack before he gets there, and the job goes smoother for everybody.

  • Propane tanks
  • Asbestos
  • Medical or biohazard waste
  • Fuel

Where hazardous waste goes instead

El Paso County runs the El Paso County Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Colorado Springs. That's the county's drop-off for household hazardous waste, so it doesn't go on Justin's truck. It's a county site, and Justin doesn't run it. He sticks to the things on the lists above.

Ask first

Some things land between the two lists. Pianos, hot tubs, gun safes, pool tables and old boats or trailers aren't on the service list or the won't-take list, so Justin wants to hear about them before anyone counts on it. Call or text (719) 246-8422 and describe what's there. He'll give a straight answer either way.

Where it all ends up

Each load gets split up. Donation comes first, to Arc, Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity. Metal goes to a Colorado Springs metal recycler. Concrete and brick go to a recycling center. Flat screen TVs and electronics get split out as e-waste. Real trash goes to East Landfill and Midway Landfill, and the El Paso County transfer station is part of the route.

Disposal is inside the one price, and dump fees are never billed separately. Loading and hauling are in that number too, and it's one number for the whole job. It doesn't change once the load is on the truck. The Colorado Springs junk removal cost guide covers how that number works, starting at the $225 minimum.

Tearing out an old wood fence and timbers along a retaining wall
The trailer filled to the roof with bagged junk
Tires and a fridge loaded in the cargo trailer
Old boards plywood and scrap wood piled along a backyard fence
A roll of old chain link fence piled in the brush
Cut plant clippings piled on a concrete garden wall
